When a year ends and a new one starts it becomes almost natural to stop, breathe in and look behind at what we’ve gone through in the past 12 months. It is also the very exciting time of setting goals, to dream and plan a brand new year which we all hope will be even better than the one just gone!
Well, my dear yogis, in 2017 I celebrated my ninth year as yoga teacher – can you believe it??? Where has the time gone…? 2017 was a great year full of exciting projects, loving clients, rollercoasters journeys and some good ole continued learning in between at my local Yogaloft and the awesomeness that is Triyoga.
First of all, a HUGE thank you goes out to all my amazing students – you make my life full of love, yoga, laughs and friendship. I am soooo grateful for having you all in my life!! I couldn’t do any of this without you, so keep coming to my numerous classes and continue spreading the word to friends and family!! We really are building a great community, which I hope will grow bigger and bigger in the year to come.
Now, a bit about me – what have I done in the past 12 months??? Gosh, I am slightly overwhelmed by the learning curve I have gone through…! I have had the privilege to work with some truly amazing people and be involved in some hugely interesting projects. In the Springtime I was fortunate enough to collaborate with the wonderful Laura Fisher, the co-founder of Onen Ena, a cross-disciplined arts platform called Art Without Borders. Together we hosted a workshop to start to interweave yoga and many yogic elements into the development of Trauma-Focused Movement Language (TFML), exploring movement as a therapeutic tool. This is ongoing research and continuing to work with Laura on this project is an absolutely mind-blowing experience!!
Because the first half of the year was really intense, and to calm my monkey brain, in July I retreated myself – a week in Puglia, Italy, with my lovely hubby and a bunch of really fun yogi-mates!! I couldn’t ask for anything better. I practiced some wonderful yoga with my amazing teacher Tashi Dawa. I left Italy with renewed energy and yogic bounce, namaslay yay!
This last part if the year I focused on building up my business, working with a brand or two (ooh yeah big shout-out to you @liforme xxx) and on adding more value to everyone who is following me on social media. My thanks if you are, and do keep sharing Marcia Sharp Yoga love, like, everywhere 😉 I am sure you have noticed yogis, I started blogging more regularly and I am committed to sharing with you guys some useful / fun / silly tips, articles and inspirations that I find all around the yoga globe. I hope you are all enjoying this new social side of Marcia!
For next year I have a bunch of super-secret bunnies to take out of my yoga hat. If it wasn’t that I am the grown up forty-something very serious (yep… wink) yoga teacher that you all know, I would be jumping up and down with excitement right now!!! Can’t say too much at the moment, but here’s a sneaky peek – it will involve a non-UK retreat and some ATTC…OK, not so secret…NOW I am seriously jumping up and down!!!!!!!
Keep watching this space for more juicy bits in the next weeks and months!!
I’ll leave you with a mantra for the New Year:
Travel light. Live light. Spread the light. Be the light. ~ Yogi Bhajan
